Writing Press Releases Overview

Writing an Authority Press Release

Choose an angle that benefits your target audience by answering their most important questions.

See the Authority News Release Wizard and Authority News Jacking training for help writing news releases.

Step 1 – Headline

Your headline must be catchy in order to attract readers. Keep it short and make it newsworthy.

You can use the NewsJacking Headlines Wizard for help writing news release headlines.

Step 2 – Craft a Strong Lead Paragraph

The body of the release should be long enough to cover the essential information and short enough to keep it interesting.  Answer the most important questions your prospects have, including What, Who, When, Where, and Why.

Step 3 – Cite Any Resources

Include links to any external sources. A maximum of 5 active links per release is permitted.

Step 4 – Include Quotes

Quotes bring another perspective to the news release and can help pique the reader’s interest.

Step 5 – Featured Images and Videos

Include a featured image that is at least 400 x 400.  You can also embed a YouTube video in the body of your release.

Step 6 – Contact Information

Ensure readers can contact the subject of the news release by including current contact information.

Step 7 – Double-Check Everything

Is the headline newsworthy?

Is the release between 200 and 400 words?

Does the news release read like a newsworthy article and not like a sales page?

Do all links work?

Is the video embedded properly?
