Create Your Book
From the KDP Bookshelf, select “Create hardcover” next to the book title.
Book Details
The details you enter during title setup will appear on your Amazon detail page. The title, subtitle, author name, series information, and ISBN in your manuscript file must match the details you enter during title setup. Please also note that ebooks, paperback books, and hardcover books are linked automatically if the author name and book titles match exactly. During the publishing process, KDP tries to match book details like title and author name to other editions available in the Amazon catalog. Linking these formats provides the ideal browsing experience for customers, so you’ll want to make sure the title and author name you entered for your eBook and paperback match exactly.
If you have already published an ebook or paperback book, KDP will complete the following fields from the book details:
- Language
- Book Title
- Subtitle
- Series
- Edition
- Author(s)
- Contributor(s)
- Description
- Publishing Rights
- Keywords
- Categories
- Adult Content

Add information about the book Content
- Print ISBN – A separate ISBN is required for the hardcover version of a book.
- Publication Date (leave blank and the date the book becomes “Live” on Amazon will be used)
- Print Options (interior & paper type, trim size (only 5 trim sizes available, bleed settings, cover finish)
- Upload Manuscript (same PDF file you used for the paperback version as long as it is one of the permitted trim sizes.)
- Create or Upload Cover
- Preview Book
- Save

Once the content is uploaded, select “Launch Preview.”
First, you will see the cover. Ensure that all text and images are within the margins. Also, double-check the back cover text for any typos or errors.
Next, review the interior of the book. You can use the left and right arrows to scroll through each page. You can also select the “Thumbnail view” to see all pages at once.
If you need to make any changes, select “Exit Print Previewer.” If the book is ready to print as-is, select “Approve.”

- Enter the List Price (KDP will calculate the price for individual territories)
- Read the Terms and Conditions
- Request a Proof
- Save as Draft OR Publish
